WESTERN BUREAU:

A DOUBLE killing in Cottage district, Little London in Westmoreland, has left the community feeling mixed emotions of relief and grief.

The first killing was by a 19-year-old man, Damion Brown, known also as Randy, who attacked Sasha-Kay Myers, a 19-year-old student of the community. Reports are that Myers was on her way to remove clothes from a clothes line at her home when she was pounced upon by Randy who used a machete to partially sever her neck. She died on the spot.

An alarm was raised which attracted the attention of an off-duty police officer who resides in the community. The officer along with several citizens chased Randy for about a mile, cornering him. He reportedly attacked the police officer with the machete he was still carrying and the officer retaliated by firing two rounds from his service pistol.

MAN PRONOUNCED DEAD

The injured man was rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital in a police service vehicle to save him from a mob, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Bureau of Special Investigations has since launched an investigation in to the police killing, while the Little London police are investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, residents of Cottage are claiming that the police took too long to deal with the situation as two other persons were allegedly attacked by Randy recently, while several others were fearful of him.
