Jamaica pacer freeing his mind
published: Monday | May 1, 2006

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC):

HAVING OVERCOME at least two injury setbacks in his fledgling career, West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor is looking ahead to the challenges.

Taylor, who broke down on the tour of New Zealand during the first Test, showed he is coming back to his best with Man-of-the-Match performances in the first two One-Day Internationals against Zimbabwe at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) Saturday and yesterday.

"Basically, you just (have to) free your mind from it after going through the rehabilitation and ... you have to free your mind and come out and play the cricket," he said after the second game.

"So far I'm pleased," added Taylor, who made his West Indies debut as an 18-year-old in 2003 but had his career stalled by a back injury soon after.

Speaking during yesterday's post-match presentation cere-mony, the 21-year-old Taylor said: "It's a different version from the Test cricket. You have to come out and bowl to contain (batsmen) and hopefully come out on top," said the Jamaican.
