WESTERN BUREAU:
END-OF-FIRST-ROUND champions Negril FC will take a one-goal advantage into this afternoon's second-leg game against Montpelier in the 2006 Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League final at the Frome Sports Ground, Westmoreland, starting at 3:30.
"All we need to do is to avoid defeat and we think we are quite capable of doing that," said Junior Francis, the technical director of the Negril team. "On the evidence of what we have done this season, there is absolutely no reason why we should not be confident," he said.
However, the Montpelier team, which ended the unbeaten run of preseason favourites Granville FC in their semi-final clash, is a side brimming with confidence despite their first leg 1-0 loss.
According to skipper and top midfielder Denton Vidal, it is going to require more than a special effort for the Negril team to beat them twice.
"We have put a lot of effort into getting this far and we are not about to roll over a play dead," said the confident Vidal. "Our only mission in this game is to win and we are confident that we have what it takes to win."
In terms of personnel, Negril's bid for victory is expected to revolve around Kevon Grant, Howard Phillips, Derval Frazer and Paul Spence while Montpelier will be banking on Vidal, Sidney Riggan, Kirk Ellis, Lenore Campbell and fleet-footed Ledron Smith.
