... Give women the right too?
published: Friday | May 5, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IN RESPONSE to the letter titled 'Polygamy should be legalised', I wish to ask of the writer, are you also then open to allowing women to have more than one husband?

In the days when such practices took place, men were the sole breadwinners.

In the world we live in today, more often than we may care to acknowledge, women are stronger providers than men; they are able to balance family, work and sometimes further their education.

I do agree that holy matrimony is sacred and should be reserved only for those who truly practise such. Therefore, if men in today's society are to be allowed to openly have more than one wife, women too should be extended similar courtesies.

I am, etc.,

ANN MOORE

EDITOR'S NOTE: The term 'polygamy' covers both genders.
