Focus on new energy sources
published: Friday | May 5, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WONDER why the Government is reported to be contemplating pulling out of the JPS as speculated. I think it is premature to consider pulling out at this time.

I gather the study of wind generation has shown it to be a non-starter. Alternative sources of energy have to be found for our life's sake. The shallow and infantile arguments being spouted about Jamaica's involvement in World Cup cricket are hardly worthy of comment. However, more mature thinking ought to be given to energy production from alternative sources.

It is far more important than long-term considerations for new highways and will in no way compete with funding needs for the maintenance of old systems. It is time to wake up and 'accentuate the positive'!

I am, etc.,
