Time for new trading policy
published: Saturday | May 6, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE GOVERNMENT is pushing Jamaica's financial burden to an escalation that is beyond the point of repaying in our lifetime. Jamaica needs to stop developing a state of dependency and actively trade with other countries freely, regardless of "the big and bad United States of America."

Our neighbour, Cuba, has survived without succumbing to the superpower. Mr. Castro has negotiated agreements with Venezuela and Bolivia in order to boost economic development. These countries seek to reduce terrorism, provide medical assistance and eradicate illiteracy.

Our Government should try these types of negotiation so we can reduce inflation and give our economy a facelift. We are a people of many talents and creative ideas. The Government needs t to focus on employment especially for the youths.

I am, etc.,

RICARDO COLE
