St Catherine, Melbourne in semis clash
published: Saturday | May 6, 2006

Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

SUPREME VENTURES Super Cup League champions St. Catherine take on Melbourne today in the lone semi-final match of the Supreme Ventures Challenge Trophy at Chedwin Park. Match time is 10:00 a.m.

Joint second-place team from the league, dethroned champions Manchester and Kingston 'Tigers' will contest the second semi-final next week at Kirkvine Sports Club.

St. Catherine, who defeated Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last weekend to take the Michael Holding Trophy, will be hunting their second title this season.

After walking away with $500,000 and the Super Cup St. Catherine, whose batting improved tremendously in the last two matches, scoring 328-2 against St. Mary and 529 against the JDF, should start favourites against Melbourne.

Leading wicket-taker Bevon Brown with 43 victims will return from a one-match suspension, and will team up with leg-spinning partner Odean Brown (39 wickets) to form one of the best spin combinations in the competition.

They also have Jermaine Lawson, Oniel Richards and Tamar Lambert, while the batting will be led by the latter, Danza Hyatt, Dean Morgan who has two centuries and Keith Hibbert.

Melbourne will miss Marlon Samuels, but the likes of Carlton Baugh, Donovan Pagon, Andre McCarthy and Yanick Eliott should be good enough to score over 250.

Their bowling will be led by Nikita Miller, Leon Bent and McCarthy.
