The thought of their parents engaging in sexual relations is so revolting to teenagers and adult children, one wonders whether they think they dropped from the sky. When the question is posed their mouths open wide, jaws drop and eyebrows climb skywards, but Flair asked them anyway:
Have you ever caught your parents having sexual intercourse?
THE INSTANT response from 26-year-old Dwayne Brownwas:
"No, it would be just nasty for them to be doing that (having sex)."
It is not that Mr. Brown has caught his parents 'doing the bedroom tango.' But, the mere thought of it causes him to be uneasy.
Mr. Brown is not alone, Flair found out. Many individuals are in denial about the thought that their parents are sexually-charged beings. It is seen as downright 'gross' for parents to be sexually active. It is paradoxical that adults know how they were conceived but believe that parents should not be having intercourse.
"I was immaculately conceived. My parents have never had sex," said Mr. Brown. He said he does not know why, but it bugs him to think that his parents have sex. "I don't know how I got here. For all I know the stork brought me here," he said exhibiting visible signs of discomfort at the thought.
Marcia Smith, 35, said her parents do not have sex. "I was dropped from the sky. Call it denial, but I think it is nasty of my parents to have sex," said Miss Smith.
TRAUMATISING
Michelle Jones, 21, has never caught her parents having sex, but said that it would have been traumatising. "Thank God, I've never seen that. I would be traumatised. I don't need to see or hear anything like that because it's sick. I know I came through sex, but it's nasty thinking that they do it because they are my parents," she said.
Kirk Miller, 24, at age 12 caught his parents 'butt naked' in their bedroom. His father was lying on the bed, while his mother was walking around the room. Mr. Miller said he does not know if they had done it already or if they were about to have sex. However, it was traumatising. "The door was slightly ajar and me in my naive state of mind decided to go in. I saw too much nudity. I just sighed and went back downstairs," he said and added that the situation taught him not to open closed doors before knocking.
Improper socialisation about one's sexuality and one's body can be blamed for why.
