WESTERN BUREAU:
FOLLOWING THE publication of the story of two-year-old Shanel Cooper, who needed urgent surgery to remove a tumour on her leg, the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) has come to the child's assistance. Shortly after the story came to public attention, little Shanel was admitted at the CRH for observation and subsequently underwent further tests and a Magnetic Reso-nance Imaging scan.
"The only desire and concern of the Cornwall Regional Hospital is to help the child. This has always been the case and will remain so," Everton Anderson, the hospital's CEO told The Gleaner.
Shanel's story immediately sparked attention, both locally and overseas, with persons expressing a desire to assist with her operation.
Little Shanel was diagnosed with a tumour to the left calf in January and needed urgent surgery to avoid her leg being amputated, as well as preventing the tumour from spreading to other parts of her body.
