Preval vows to unite through dialogue
published: Thursday | May 11, 2006

PREVAL

PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI (CMC):

Haiti's newly-elected leader, Réne Preval, has vowed to unite the country as he prepares to be sworn into office on Sunday and face the tough challenges of his five-year mandate.

Preval said chances for Haiti to take steps toward economic and social progress were almost non-existent without a national dialogue and a permanent effort to get all stakeholders involved in the socio-economic development of the country.

"My goal is to unite all Haitians. We cannot succeed if we continue to fight each other," said Preval during a meeting on Tuesday with a group of Haitian and foreign journalists.
