THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONGRATULATIONS MR. Golding. People say that the Opposition is silent ... 'What is the Opposition doing?' Well you're on the right track. Fighting for transparency.
The two current issues regarding Mr. Patterson's appointment and the use of the NIS and NHT funds strike at the heart of proper governance and transparency. I support your stand on the issues.
Mrs. Simpson Miller spoke on Tuesday about creatively looking to see where funds can be found without affecting the budget. If the funds (NHT, NIS, NIF) have a surplus then redirect future contributions to another fund temporarily established for another purpose. But to commingle the funds to use them for purposes other than their original intention is to question the integrity of the funds. I further disagree with Madame Prime Minister to take the funds from the NIF would be "at the expense of the integrity" of the fund. The intention, is honourable, but I cannot see in the near future how the funds could be repaid.
As a taxpayer, I vehemently state that these assurances mean nothing. I was always told that a promise is a comfort to a fool. Only honourable, unquestionable actions can indicate integrity. That's all that good governance is about. That's what Mr. Golding fights for. And Mr. Golding you have my support.
I am, etc.,
