AS THE WORLD TURNS - Katie's old flame ignites Oakdale
published: Saturday | May 13, 2006

Lindsay Hartley, who plays the character 'Theresa' on the 'Passions'.

BREAKING NEWS:

It's been confirmed Paul Leyden is back as Aussie hunk Simon Frasier on As the World Turns. Poor Katie Peretti (Terri Colombino) once again has two handsome men vying for her attention. As you may remember, Katie sent Simon packing when she learned he was the one responsible for bringing Pilar back to town to try to break up Katie and Mike. Pilar even murdered what Katie thought was her pet rabbit, Snickers, but it turned out to be a look-alike bunny. Most recently, Leyden was a series regular on the canceled Heather Locklear airport drama LAX, and then guest starred on Ghost Whisperer. It is not known how long Leyden plans to stay on ATWT, but he will be back on the air June 16.

COMINGS AND GOINGS:

Arielle Renwart plays the newly SORASed (Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome) Leah Bauer on Guiding Light, who goes from tyke to teen when she returns from boarding school on May 18. Despite being offered a contract, Michael O'Leary, who plays Leah's father, Rick Bauer, has decided to stay with the show only on a recurring basis. ... Wortham Krimmer returns as Rev. Andrew Carpenter on One Life to Live after a tornado leaves residents of Llanview picking up the pieces. Krimmer played the reverend from 1991 to 2000, and has returned for several stints since. ... Corbin Bernsen says goodbye to General Hospital in May. Bernsen has several projects lined up, but you can check out his feature-film directorial debut, Carpool Guy, which was recently released on DVD. The comedy stars some famous daytime faces, including Lauralee Bell (Christine, The Young and the Restless), Lesli Kay (Felicia on The Bold and the Beautiful) and Tony Geary (Luke, GH). ... Rumour has it that Ingo Rademacher may be leaving his star-making role of Jasper 'Jax' Jacks on GH. He once hinted that he would like to retire back in Australia, and now it appears he's making his dream a reality. Adding more fuel to the rumor is a casting call that went by GH for a character named Hugo, who is described as a "sexy, suave and wealthy Casanova in his 30s." Could this be Jax?

AND THE EMMY GOES TO, PT. 1:

The Creative Arts Daytime Emmy Awards were held this past April 22, a sort of prequel to the Daytime Emmy Awards, which I'll be reporting on next week. These awards honor the artists who make the stars look beautiful, whether it's smoky eye makeup for an arched-eyebrow villainous or an elegant updo for a bride about to recite her vows for the fifth time. Other recipients are for behind-the-scenes talk-show directors, casting directors, editors and music directors. This year's winners included Mark Teschner as casting director for GH. ATWT won for art direction/set decoration, B&B took home the prize for costume design, GH won for outstanding hair styling for a drama series, and outstanding makeup went to Y&R.

Non-soapy winners include outstanding children's animated programme recipient Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks; The Ellen DeGeneres Show won outstanding directing in a talk show; The View was awarded outstanding makeup; and outstanding service show went to 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray. For a complete list of the winners, you can log onto www.emmys.org/awards/daytimeawards_cc_winners.php.

All My Children:

JR was horrified when his actions left Kendall in a coma. Babe realised that JR sabotaged the construction site and that she was his real target. After weighing Josh's advice that she turns JR into the police, Babe delivered an ultimatum to him. Erica wanted to go ahead with a risky C-section on Kendall in the hope of her waking up, although she could lose the baby. Zach and Dixie learned what Greg did to Erica and realised that Josh is Erica's son. Aware of Dixie's plan to blackmail him, Greg locked her and Zach in the vault, but Zach freed them and Dixie demanded that Greg tell her where Kate is. Lily was menaced by a group of toughs as Jonathan tried to find her in New York City.

Coming: JR must pay for his thoughtless behaviour.

As the World Turns:

Paul told Emily that she's pregnant. After Emily announced her intention to have an abortion, Paul asked Meg to move in with him, and she agreed. However, when Emily decided to keep the baby, Meg sensed it would come between her and Paul, and told him they're through. Luke revealed to his parents that he's gay. Mike was arrested when his DNA was found on the St. Christopher medal the dead girl was holding, but he had to be released when the medal went missing from the evidence room. Gwen was upset at not telling Will about her and Casey's trip to Chicago but Maddie shared the news, including some disturbing details.

Coming: Jack and Nick are at odds over the cold case.

Bold and Beautiful:

Ridge was rushed to the hospital and operated on by Christian, but he remained unconscious, much to his family's concern. A guilt-ridden Stephanie tracked down Brooke on vacation with Nick, interrupting a romantic moment to tell her that Ridge is in trouble and needs her help. Dante proposed to a shocked Bridget. Later, he told Felicia about Stephanie's plan to deport him unless he gives Felicia full custody of Dino, and she agreed to speak to Stephanie about it. As Dante and Felicia casually flirted with each other, it led to an unexpected kiss.

Coming: Ridge's perilous state affects Stephanie's state of mind.

Days of our Lives:

Bo and Billie shared the realisation of having made love, as did Hope and Patrick. When Bo and Hope finally connected on the phone, their worst fears were confirmed. Alex was shown to have taken out a life insurance policy on Marlena, who found the drugs he has been slipping her. Alex blackmailed Patrick into working for him. Sami continued to torment Carrie about birth defects, in order to keep her away from Austin. Carrie confirmed she's staying with Lucas, but later made a shocking announcement. Austin helped Will to reconcile with his mother. Shawn and Mimi discussed in vitro fertilisation with Lexie. Chelsea's trial date was moved up.

Coming: John tries to defuse the latest threat to Marlena.

General Hospital:

Convinced by Jason that she is Sam's mother, Alexis shared an emotional reunion with her daughter, whose condition worsened. The risky surgery that could save Sam or kill her became a battleground between Alexis and Jason. The paternity test naming Nikolas as John's father was delivered to Robin's office, where Maxie accidentally saw it and was conflicted over what to do. Feeling abandoned by Dillon, Georgie asked Diego to be her prom date, as he stole Edward's car to take her. Lucky heard Elizabeth on the phone with Patrick and felt certain she's been untrue to him. Luke and Robert eluded bounty hunters on the islands.

Coming: Alexis' decision puts her in conflict with Jason.

Guiding Light:

Dinah prevailed on Harley for resources to search for Ross' killer, and was provided with the Spaulding jet. Mallet realised Dinah stole his gun, which she turned on Alan-Michael. When Mallet found her on the island, Dinah was alone, holding the gun, and saying she "had to do it." Coop was about to propose to Lizzie, but backed off when he thought about Ava. When Lizzie later swore to Jonathan that the baby isn't his, he was happy to believe her. Reva made an appointment to begin radiation treatments but still withheld the news of her cancer from Josh.

Coming: Has Dinah taken an irreversible step?

One Life to Live:

Following the havoc wreaked by the tornado, John revealed his feelings to Natalie, whose condition improved at the hospital. Evangeline feared being left blind, as Cristian remained by her side. After Kelly and Duke made love, they were buried in rubble when the rectory collapsed. Kevin found them and had to make an impossible decision, which haunted him, even as Kelly underwent emergency surgery. Adriana fought off her stalker and committed to Rex, but remained in danger. Following Spencer's orders, Denton tracked down Margaret and David. John headed to Bangkok in search of David.

Coming: Kevin demands the truth from Kelly.

Passions:

Siren took Miguel aback when she tried to seduce him in the bathtub, and later said she wants to make a baby with him. In the catacombs, Chad and Luis found a fresco featuring a woman who looks like Whitney. Whitney's virtual reality session turned real and she fled, finding Chad buried in debris and rescuing him while Fancy and Noah saved Luis' life. Whitney insisted to the monk she must take her own life to abolish the sins she committed with Chad. Luis had no idea that as he searched for Beth and Marty, they were close by.

Coming: The strange symbol spreads its influence.

Young and Restless:

Neil's demanding of an explanation regarding Lily's e-mail led to him finally learning that Malcolm is Lily's biological father. Feeling betrayed by Dru, Neil was unable to trust or forgive her. Paul and JT were shocked when the court documents from Cleveland showed a very different Brad Carlton in the pictures from the one they know. Unaware of this, Victoria and Brad were married. Nick became suspicious when Victor announced that he's returning the CEO title to him and Victoria. Phyllis found out that she's about eight weeks pregnant, which means that Jack or Nick could be the father. Jack angered Carmen, the new public relations executive, by not staying out of the public eye.

Coming: Phyllis is in a dilemma about who and what to tell.
