Kingston and Manchester in semi-final clash
published: Saturday | May 13, 2006

Dethroned league champions Manchester and Kingston go head-to-head over the next two days in the second semi-final of the Supreme Ventures Challenge Trophy at Kensington Park. Match time is 10:00 a.m.

Both teams finished second and third respectively in the league and will be looking for a place in the final from May 27-28 against league winners St. Catherine CC.

Manchester based on their head-to-head clash against Kingston over the past three seasons, should start favourites.

Kingston's captain Kerry Scott, agreed that they have played second fiddle to Manchester over the past few seasons, but said this time "we are looking to push a little harder."

We are a confident bunch and we yearn for the chance to compete against St. Catherine in the final," he said.

Kingston's Tigers will be banking on two former West Indies players Roland Holder and Nehemiah Perry to guide them through.

Simon Jackson, Brian Latore, Andrew Richards, Jowayne Robinson and Duran White, along with captain Scott are very good players.

For Manchester, former national player Orville Pennant will lead his team in place of the suspended Matthew Sinclair. Ziggy Levy is also on suspension.

In their absence Pennant, Donovan Sinclair, Gary Graham, David Powell, Stezon Patterson and Domaine Sangster will have to carry the bulk of the team's responsibility.

"We have some main players out, but the bench can respond," Manchester's coach Barry Barnes said. "I expect a harder game against Kingston again, but we are equal to the task."
