Gifts that promote wellness
published: Wednesday | May 17, 2006

Carmen Bowen-Wright

IT IS said that it is better to give than to receive. Sometimes, however, gifts can offend the recipient and so it would have been better not to have given.

Today, I wish to suggest gifts that give a sense of well-being to the recipient. I also wish to suggest some novel ways of giving gifts.

FLOWERS

Flowers are always welcome. They make the recipient feel special. The giver should do some research to discover preferred colours. Also, the giver should ensure, if possible, that the recipient will have no allergic reaction to the gift of flowers.

JEWELLERY

This category of gifts is expensive and only select persons are usually able to give jewellery. However, there is 'fashion jewellery' that can bring pleasure and joy to the recipient. Here again a little research will ensure that the jewellery will be just the right accessory for a particular suit or evening dress of the recipient.

CLOTHES

Trendy clothes bought as a gift to a teenager can 'make their day'. A garment of bright colours bought for an elderly person can lift their spirits and bring a sense of well-being. Similarly, a length of beautiful cloth can be given. The recipient can then create his/her choice of styles.

NOVEL GIFTS

The above categories are very popular types of gifts, but I will now introduce some novel gifts which are not usually thought of.

A PILL BOX

Many mature persons with chronic diseases need an attractive container to carry around their pills. Such a gift is received with great delight.

A DAY'S WORK

Doing a day's work for someone can contribute to their physical, mental and spiritual well-being. For example, doing a day's house cleaning for an elderly person and freeing up mother for a day, by baby-sitting her children, is another good example.

A PHYSICAL CHECK-UP

Many persons would like to have a physician checking them out but are unable to spare the cash. Arranging this and paying the fee could make the recipient very grateful, especially if some impending ill health is detected early.

A TRIP TO THE SPA

This gift is especially appreciated by persons who work under much stress. A massage and a facial relax the muscles and induces refreshing sleep.

ENTERTAINMENT

How about tickets to an evening's entertainment? A variety of entertainment exists to choose from. Of course, the giver would choose according to the taste of the recipient.

The above, I hope, are good ideas for gifts to lift the spirit, heal a broken heart and generally promote wellness of mind and spirit.
