THE EDITOR, Sir:
I HAVE to say that I am very disappointed with Bruce Golding's recent comment that it is not the responsibility of the contributors to the NHT fund to provide housing for the indigent among us.
Any civilised society is judged by the way it looks after those of its citizens who are most vulnerable. We must show compassion towards the very young, the very old and the very poor. In my opinion, any society that does not look after the vulnerable has no right to call itself civilised.
I think the Prime Minister is being true to her religious beliefs in showing compassion to those less fortunate. This is a breath of fresh air, as it is often so lacking in politicians. It is very obvious that Bruce Golding is not a very compassionate person.
Let's not forget that many, if not most, of these elderly persons who are finding life hard in their latter years have worked hard most of their lives. They have paid taxes and some would have even contributed to the NHT fund as well. I would like to implore Mr. Golding, please show a bit of compassion.
I am etc.,
