THE EDITOR, Sir:
YOUR LETTER 'Mind change on Portia' by Joseph Patterson in your issue of May 11, comes as no surprise to this individual. One should also re-read the article in your March 12 issue, 'Scrutinising the votes' by Shalman Scott and begin to see where we are headed.
Omar Davies, Minister of Finance and Planning, could not muster 250 votes, and now wants to ram reckless fiscal procedures through Parliament. With whose blessings? At least, Blythe was indirectly handed his walking papers.
I remember members of Peter Phillips' campaign warning against 'chances'; can we remember that? How can any 21st century electorate be bamboozled into taking chances at such a level? Well, we shall surely reap what we sow. And the media are to be partially blamed for what seems to be heading into a open pit because of their callous reporting during the campaign.
Now, should the PNP call an early election? Or should Portia emulate Chanderpaul of the WI Cricket team by stepping down to concentrate on what she does best?
I am, etc.,
VINNIE WHITE
