Mom, 3-y-o daughter shot
published: Wednesday | May 17, 2006

A MOTHER and her three-year-old child were shot and injured in crossfire between rival gangs in the hotbed of central Kingston yesterday afternoon.

"Both of them have been hospitalised," Victor Cummings, the Member of Parliament for Central Kingston, told The Gleaner last night.

Mr. Cummings, who spent most of the night at the Bustamante Children's Hospital where the girl was taken, said the child was shot in the throat. He said, however, that it appeared she would pull through.

"This child is really a fighter," Mr. Cummings noted, adding that the child's mother was shot in the arm.

Reports are that the woman and her child were shot in the vicinity of Water and Hitchin streets, in the troubled Allman Town community.

At least 13 children have been slain by criminals since January.
