OUR VIEW
THE BEST defence against any tsunami or seiche is public awareness of what to look for and what to do. It is in fact the only defense against such local phenomena. Even with technologically-driven warning systems it is the public's heeding and response.


IN THE NEWS
ONE OF the main goals of measuring earthquakes is to assess seismic hazard. Often presented in the form of maps, seismic hazard indicates the amount of horizontal ground shaking one would expect in a given area over a given period of time.
