Upsurge of violence in Central Kingston
published: Thursday | May 18, 2006

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

AFTER A lull in gun violence, the constituency of Central Kingston is experiencing renewed hostility.

At least five persons have been murdered over the past two weeks and several others, including a three-year-old girl, shot and injured.

"The baby girl is battling for life, she lost a lot of blood, she is in a critical condition," Victor Cummings, Member of Parliament for the constituency, told The Gleaner yesterday.

Commanding Officer for the division, Superintendent Vida Walker-Morant, said the child's mother, who was also shot and injured in the incident Tuesday night, is still being hospitalised. However, her condition is not considered life threatening.

MULTIPLE GUNSHOT WOUNDS

Like a pendulum, the shooting swung from Allman Town on Tuesday night to the Text Lane area of 'Spoilers' where the body of 19-year-old Nicholas Williams, alias 'Chiney Man', was found yesterday morning with multiple gunshot wounds.

This killing occurred a block from where 12-year-old Jerome Frankson was murdered on Sunday morning by gunmen.

Superintendent Walker-Morant is not attributing the killings to any gang feud. Like Mr. Cummings, the commanding officer said she has no idea of the motive behind the upsurge in violence.
