THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE PURPOSE of this letter is not to complain about JPS or national water charges, high though they are. Being able to read the meters, which is a simple task once shown, I always found the bill correct as compiled from the meter readings.
I have received numerous bits of paper informing me of price increases etc. but never one showing how to read the meter. Why tell me how much you pay for oil the dollar rate or the price of fish? I have no convenient way of checking that this is correct or not. I am sure, most people, like myself, only want to know the price per unit after any fixed charges and to be shown how to read the meter so that they will know how to manage their usage.
PAYMENT REQUIRED
I shop at a store from where I can and do pay my utility bills. It would be even better if there was a dispensing pharmacy counter, a counter where I can pay my land tax per month or even my car licence.
I now understand that this bill payment company wants to charge an additional fee to that received from the utility companies to collect these payments. I have to warn the store that they won't see me very often if I have to pay a fee for bill collection which, once it starts, will only go up and up!
