Disgruntled

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a very disgruntled 24-year-old young woman who by default has to be making mandatory contributions to the National Housing Trust (NHT) who says that they are there to provide assistance for persons who wish to purchase a house. However, I beg to differ. I have learned that I cannot receive the maximum benefits allotted to all contributing members as my parents decided to have my name added to their house titles. This to me is unfair as my parents would have already made their contributions which would have allowed them to purchase their homes.
I need someone to tell me why the Government feels that it is right to have persons such as myself making these mandatory payments from our salary and yet when the time comes for me to use the facilities which they so proclaim is there to assist Jamaicans, I am not allowed to do so.
Also, why is it that I am being held responsible for my parents' good judgement to secure my future as they see fit and provide me with the benefit of having my name on a house title? To me, my parents' decision is theirs and it is time that the National Housing Trust stands behind its claim of assisting Jamaicans to finance their housing without any form of prejudice.
I am, etc.,
