THE EDITOR, Sir:
I CONTINUE to be amazed at people who offer no concrete ideas to solving the burgeoning crisis of unemployment and its attendant consequences of poverty and crime, but are quite adept at attacking those who make real efforts to deal with the problem.
I speak of the negative pronouncements by the Opposition and other special interest groups to the budget presentation of Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to the Jamaican people which was articulated in a manner we could clearly understand.
A BEACON OF HOPE
Fortunately, the more credible writers and commentators who took the time to listen carefully and analyse the speech, saw it for what it was - a beacon of hope for all Jamaicans, because without hope for the poor the whole society is in danger.
Those who would want to keep the large segments of our population poor and uneducated do this for their own self interest. However, the Jamaican people will not accept persistent poverty as a way of life; luckily they now have Hon. Portia Simpson Miller to champion their cause.
I therefore ask the question, "How can it be wrong to utilise the people's funds to assist the people in their own development?"
I am, etc.,
