MORE RAINS are expected today as the island experiences a frontal system that has been producing outbreaks of heavy showers over sections of the island since Wednesday night.
According to the latest reports from the Meteorological Service, the system has been weakening, but will continue to bring more showers today in northern parishes such as St. Mary, St. Ann, Trelawny and St. James.
Meanwhile, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emer-gency Management (ODPEM) reported flooding in several Corporate Area communities, yesterday.
Sections of the road leading to Land Lease in eastern St. Andrew broke away and as a result, the Jamaica National Children's Home was inaccessible.
BUSY DAY FOR NWA
The National Works Agency (NWA) was kept busy yesterday as it cleared several roads that were blocked due to the heavy downpour. Stephen Shaw, com-munications manager at the NWA told The Gleaner Power 106 News Centre that all roads in St. Andrew, which were affected by landslides, would have been cleared.
The affected areas were Papine to Redlight district, Guava Ridge to Cooperage, Guava Ridge to Silver Hill Gap and Papine to Bull Bay main roads. Mr. Shaw said there were also problems on some major thoroughfares.
The Meteorological Service is predicting that normal weather conditions will return to the island on the weekend.
