An officer and a gentleman

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I wish to say how disappointed I am at the departure of this officer and gntleman. Superintendent Wade came to Spanish Town many months ago and displayed only professionalism and courtesy. He treated everyone alike and always commanded respect from his officers and citizens.
When officers are transferred, I think it may be a good idea to take a survey from the citizens as to the performance of that person before removing him or her. There is a saying "if it ain't broken, don't fix it". Mr. Wade was not broken. Shifting officers around for no reason at all makes no sense. He worked hard to punch holes into the walls of destruction in Spanish Town and "said it" as he knew it and was not afraid to say so. If citizens are to create partnerships with the police in fighting crime and violence in any town, it takes time to get to trust - Mr. Wade was a silent force to reckon with - he ruled with a "quiet iron hand", and got the job done.
I am, etc.,
