Sterling innings comes to an end
published: Friday | May 19, 2006

STERLING

GEORGE STERLING, former first vice-president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), died at the Nuttall Memorial Hospital yesterday.

Sterling, also a former member of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and past president of the Melbourne Cricket Club, had been ill for a short time.

A former player, Sterling captained Melbourne to the Senior Cup title in 1968 and also represented Jamaica Colts in his early days.

He also managed Ja-maica cricket teams and the West Indies Under-19 side which toured England in 1992.

He also served as president of the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew.

JCA president Jackie Hendriks said he was shocked when he heard the news yesterday.

"He made a wonderful contribution to Jamaica cricket," Hendriks said.

"We are very, very sad. The entire cricket fraternity is mourning," he said.
