WORLD YOUTH Championships silver medallist Natasha Ruddock departed the island yesterday to get treatment for her hamstring injury in the United States.

Ruddock, who finished second in the 100m hurdles at last year's World Youth Championships in Marrakesh, Morocco, has travelled to Birmingham, Alabama, to visit Dr. Tracey Ray at the L. South Medical Centre.

Ruddock, who sustained the injury at the Girls Champs in March, was forced to miss what would have been her fourth trip to the CARIFTA Games.

DOING POOL WORK

St. Jago coach Raymond 'KC' Graham said Ruddock, one of Jamaica's most decorated junior sprint hurdlers, had been doing pool work.

The coach also said Ruddock, who won silver at the 2005 Pan American Junior Championships (13.42), could start track training now as the injury had improved.

He also expects things to be better upon her return.

"The expert medical treatment will go a far way," Graham said. "With the expert that she will be seeing, I expect big improvement."

Ruddock's attention this year will be focused on the World Junior Championships in China in August. She has a season best of 13.68 over the regular hurdles.

Graham is looking for great things from his athlete at the champs in Beijing.

"I expect her to do very well at the world junior championships," said Graham, a national senior team coach.
