published: Saturday | May 20, 2006

THE CLARENDON Football Association (CFA) has come together with the Jamaica Football Federation (JFA) to organise the Reggae Boyz' final friendly before they leave for England to take part in two international friendlies ahead of the 2006 World Cup.

The CFA, with the sponsorship of Juici Beef, Blue Water and Building Innovations, have put together a Clarendon All-Stars team that will test Jamaica's local-based national team and help their coach Wendell Downswell to make his final decisions regarding his 22-man squad for the sojourn of England.

The game, for which national head coach Wendell Downswell has named a 20-man squad, will be played this Sunday at the Jamalco Sports Complex beginning at four o'clock.

For Jamaica, Shawn Sawyers (vice-captain), Maurice Evans, Christopher Jackson, Khouri Pickersgill, Orane Simpson, Fabian Davis (captain), Demar Stewart, Adrian Reid, O'neil Thompson, Vincent Earle, Demar Phillips, Rafe Wolfe, Lovel Palmer, Rohan Reid, Kevin Lamey, Carnel Learmond, Horace Howell, Wilfred Smith, Damion Williams and Tyrone Sawyers.

SERIOUS GAME

Speaking to the invitees, Downswell underlined the importance of the event and made sure to point out that they, as national players, needed to take the game seriously and perform well.

"As a national unit it is important to display the best possible performance," said Downswell, pointing to the upcoming Digicel Cup for which he says the team is already in preparation.

"It is equally important to show the best talent from Clarendon so that young players can become a part of the pool of talent of about 40 players that the senior team presently rotates," explained Downswell to the CFA.

For the All-Stars, a squad of 34 players have been called for one training session to be coached by Merrick Morrison and Vassell Reynolds, after which the team will be reduced to 20.

The squad reads: Damion Crooks, Norris Henry, Warren Clarke, Damion Barrett, Omar Parker, Omar Dallas, Sean Coleman, Dwayne Ford, Seon Giveans, Romaine Halstead, Kemar Mills, Dwayne Thomas, Owen Gordon, Oneke Ford, Jevaughn Watson, Ricardo Cousins, Odean Wright, Omar Walters, Karl Wiggan, Leon Callagam, Omar Francis, Terry Alves, Keane Bennett, Welton Lewis, James Thomas, Shauntel Mundle, Christopher Powell, Adrian Wilson, Lemar Reid, Rohan Smith, Sheldon Stone and Michael Jackson.
