SHAKTI MIND Body Fitness Centre has teamed up with the America Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AmCham) in an effort to raise funds for the Grants Pen project. Their goal is to raise at least $250,000.

The event will take place from May 26 to 28 at Shakti, 5 Bedford Park Avenue in Kingston. The proceeds from the event will be donated to the Model Community Policing and Services facility and the Edna Manley Health Centre in Grants Pen St. Andrew. It has been opened since January.

The policing centre and the health centre were built to stand as a pillar of hope for the residents of the community. AmCham's vice-president, Diana Stewart and executive director, Becky Stockhausen worked tirelessly behind the scenes to solicit funds for building the centres. However, now that the centres are in operation there are unplanned expenses that have arisen. As such, there is the need to raise funds to assist with these expenses.

YOGA, FITNESS CLASS

Sharon Feanny, owner of Shakti said she was inspired to be a part of the project after Mrs. Stockhausen told her about it. She told Flair at a press conference that there are going to be an array of yoga and fitness classes during the three days. She stated that classes will be taught both by Jamaica's best fitness professionals and two overseas indoor cycling instructors from M-Cycle in Miami, United States of America.

There will be exercises that will cater to the need of everyone such as: indoor cycling, yoga, body sculpt, pilates, and zumba. Also there will be lectures on wellness by Dr. Tony Vendryes.

For those who want of be a part of the event will be asked to donate a minimum of $1,000 per class. Mrs. Feanny noted that even a host of celebrities are already signing up to join in the fight against crime in the once hot bed crime community.
