THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN RESPONSE to a letter to The Editor in The Gleaner of May 18, 2006 written by Ms. Kaidy-Ann Nelson, we at the National Housing Trust wish to point out that our policies do allow those persons whose names have been added to property titles by their parents to access a loan from the Trust. In fact, such persons may access a loan of up to $3 million dollars, subject to our basic eligibility and affordability criteria.
PROCESS WAS SIMPLIFIED
The policy of the NHT has always been to allow such persons to seek a special waiver from the Trust. Recently, the process was simplified by making it possible for requests for waivers to be approved at the Branch Managers' level, rather than at the senior management level. The special waiver is necessary since the Trust does not normally allow a contributor whose name appears on a property title to access more than a home owners loan of $1 million.
We urge Ms. Nelson and other NHT contributors in a similar situation to make your request for such a waiver in writing to the Branch Manager for the parish in which you live and include a copy of the title for the property.
We look forward to providing you with the type of customer service that will exceed your expectations.
I am, etc.,
EARL SAMUELS
Managing Director
