Not enough pharmacies
published: Monday | May 22, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THERE ARE five pharmacies within the Morant Bay-Lysson's Area, and the people in the far eastern part of St. Thomas have to spend in the region of $200 round trip to get their prescriptions filled. The programme 'Drugs For the Elderly' is a step in the right direction costing only $40.00 for each medication; but the transportation cost is steep for persons with a meagre pension.

I believe the Isaac Barrant Health Centre should be upgraded to even an acceptable Health centre: to help the situation.

The pharmacies in the Morant Bay area should check to see if it would be economical to set up a drug-counter at Golden Grove to serve an area extending from eastern St. Thomas to eastern Portland, because those people in Eastern Portland have to travel all the way to Morant Bay, or Port Antonio.

I am, etc.,

J. A. BAILEY

Dalvey P.O.

St Thomas
