AUGUST TOWN registered a 2-1 win over Naggo Head at the University of the West Indies field yesterday to put their premier league promotional bid firmly back on track.

The prolific Nicholas Smith opened the scoring for the home team, slotting home after substitute goalkeeper, Kelvin Brown failed to hold on to a Ross Burton shot in the 49th minute.

The tall Delroy Johnson doubled August Town's lead in the 79th minute from the penalty spot after Gregory Britten handled a cross in the box.

Naggo Head captain Patrick Edmondson reduced the deficit in the 88th minute with the goal of the match. He ghosted in behind the defence, controlled a long pass and in one motion, volleyed past the hapless goalkeeper Devon Haughton from the edge of the box.

The red and white-clad August Town secured their first win of the campaign following Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Negril FC at Frome.

The Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) representative, move to three points, just one behind leader Negril FC which drew 1-1 with St. Georges FC.

Christopher Bender, coach of August Town, was happy for maximum points.

"The three points was the most important thing. This is a significant step in our progress forward and hopefully we can keep our momentum," said Bender.

He continued: "We dominated the first half. We should have been a goal or two up but we miss those chances. Again we played better in terms of possession in the second half, got two goals and our concentration went and we gave up a goal."

On the contrary, Harold Thomas, coach of Naggo Head, remained optimistic after his side's loss to be on one point from two games.

"For the second game we just never played as well as we can. We are too tentative, never closed down enough and too many errors," said Thomas.

"It's a six-game schedule and we won't concede anything until the last game. There is still a lot to play for and we still have confidence in our ability," added Thomas.
