Hotel overkill

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM very happy with the outcome of the case against the hotel at Pear Tree Bottom. Congratulations to the NJCA, JET and others. Please, no more such development in that area or any other coastal/environmentally delicate areas of our small island! We have reached our limit with these large hotels, and any more is overkill. The damage to the life in the area, the trees, plants, animals, water quality, beaches and the coral and marine life cannot be imagined; it must be seen to be believed!
The protection of our natural environment can no longer be looked upon as an impediment to economic and social development, because sustainable development depends on a viable, sustained and reproducing natural environment, and this little piece of the earth we live on must be considered before we build any structure on it, especially large permanent structures on our coastlines. Otherwise total tragedy is inevitable and there will be nothing but death for our visitors to see even as they dive beneath the waves and see the grey coral graveyards.
Stop the insane over-development and the destruction of our Jamaica!
I am, etc;
