THE EDITOR, Sir:
I BELIEVE that the Transport Authority of Jamaica, the police and the vehicle-towing companies are working together to take millions of dollars from trying people - as if it is not already bad that the murderers are killing our taxi operators for their hard-earned money.
The police, who should serve and protect, are taking away the operators' money whether they are doing wrong on the road or not.
Imagine, I have applied for a PPV for my car for more than a year since January 2005 and to this day when the taxi associa-tion or I call, all the rude Transport Authority personnel can say is that it is not their department that is handling the matter. Nobody from that department is ever available and sometimes when the phone rings and they are tired of it, they then rudely tell you, "Yuh nuh see nuh body nah answer".
COMPETITION
They are riding on a high horse, and I think it's time we the people cut them loose and let then drop. In the same way
we have a lot of insurance companies, the Government should give us another Transport Authority or allow private companies to do the job; they need competition.
They take a year to supply you with the documents to stay on the road, and then they are the same persons who come and take away your vehicle for a service you have paid for and they have not supplied.
Sista P, taxi operators across Jamaica are calling on you to open the gate that so that people may have a choice so we can keep the police and Transport Authority off our backs. They are sucking us dry. Help!
I am, etc.,
