Council for World Mission assembly for Jamaica Grande

'TAKE HOME the Good News' is the theme for the Council for World Mission (CWM) assembly, scheduled for the Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios, June 18-27.

Some 200 CWM delegates from Africa, Europe, the Pacific, the Caribbean and South-East Asia will gather for the 2006 assembly, which is being hosted by the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands (UCJCI).

The Council for World Mission is a worldwide community of Christian churches that are committed to sharing their human and financial resources, skills and insights globally for God's mission in the local environment. CWM Assembly takes place every three years, when delegates from across the six regions vote for the new CWM moderator, treasurer and trustee body. The assembly also suggests the direction CWM should be taking in the future.

The theme 'Take Home the Good News' is a call for churches to take on the challenge of deeper involvement with their home context and community. In focusing on this theme, delegates of the 31 member-countries will also discuss issues that are relevant in the CWM member-churches, share good-news stories, and build relationships through daily worship and Bible Study.

SPECIAL HIGHLIGHT

The opening service on June 18 is also a special highlight of the Ocho Rios Assembly and will feature local gifts and talents such as the University Alumni Singers, Oberlin and Clarendon College, Bethel Baptist Steel Band, a combined dance troupe and the Mona Prep Drummers.

The Rev. Dr. Roderick Hewitt, current moderator of CWM and moderator of the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, will deliver the sermon for the opening service.
