Teams ready for play-offs
published: Wednesday | May 24, 2006

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

YESTERDAY'S LABOUR Day project for Police C, Friendship, Alexander Strikers and Ebony Strikers A must have been to dust themselves off and get ready for the third-place play-offs in the Supreme Ventures A and C netball leagues, this evening at the Leila Robinson Courts.

Police C and Friendship will be the first to take to the courts when they contest the third-place playoff in Division C at 6:00 p.m.

In the following game at 7:00, Alexander Strikers will take on Ebony Strikers A in the Division A play-off.

The Division C play-off is expected to be a tight affair as both teams have lost pride to regain and need to come out of the competition having earned something from it.

LOST ITS WAY

Police, in particular, have been trying to revitalise their netball, which has lost its way a bit over the past two years.

Friendship are a club on the rise and are looking for some much-needed respect. This season has been a good one for the side and ending with a third-place finish would crown it off.

None of the teams are short of fighting spirit, which was evident in the semi-finals, as both games had to be decided in overtime.

Friendship's heart-wrenching 23-21 loss to Speg was dramatic and might affect how much they can get their energy levels up for the third-place game.

This might not be an advantage though, as the same can be said for the 24-23 defeat that Police suffered at the hands of Molynes.

The situation in the later Division A game is similar, as Alexander Strikers and Ebony Strikers could be struggling for motivation after Ravens looked comfortable against Ebony in a 32-26 result and Alexander were not quite up to the standard of Molynes A in a 35-29 finish in their semis.
