Foolish ideas on illegal migrants

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS rather foolhardy and downright senseless to think that illegal immigrants of Jamaican nationality would proceed to take up the 'travel free' bait stated in your piece on how Jamaica can benefit from the present U.S. administration's plans on illegal immigration.
While the U.S. has chosen to benefit from this underground group within their borders, I had to snicker at the thought that current politicians in the Jamaican government could see a possible windfall given the mess of crime and economic stagnation that has gripped the island for the past decade. No matter how inhuman, fearful and abusive the conditions may be for illegals in other countries throughout the world, life will be much better for both them and their families if they legitimised their status.
