Keep public, prisoners apart
published: Thursday | May 25, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I SUPPORT the call for special arrangements to be made regarding 'high risk' prisoners rubbing shoulders with the public.

Last year, I was part of a fairly benign case which was heard at the Supreme Court. I recall quite clearly the horror felt at being only yards away from what seemed to be a slew of 'hardened, menacing' prisoners. Although the security forces were visible, things seemed far too 'cavalier' where access to the public by these prisoners was concerned.

I literally sought 'shelter' as far down the court's corridor and as close to a group of attorneys as I could, until my case was called.

Please, let's do something to further protect the [law-abiding] public from such close contact with this group.

Thank you.

I am, etc.,

J. NUNES
