St George's hoping to keep dream alive

ST. GEORGE'S FC host Naggo Head in the only Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) National Premier League (NPL) play-off game today, at Lynch Park in Buff Bay starting at 3:30 p.m.

The other match between August Town and Negril FC will be played tomorrow at the University of the West Indies (UWI) field.

St, George's, the only team in the play-off with Premier League experience, find themselves at the bottom of the pile with two points from three games.

AUGUST TOWN IN LEAD

August Town lead the table with six points, while Naggo Head and Negril, both on four points, are in close contention.

The Portland-based outfit have drawn their first two games with Naggo Head and Negril FC 1-1 before losing to August Town 1-0 to be in a precarious position.

The Donovan Duckie-coached team still has as good a chance as any other team to qualify, but will have to start winning now.

"Right now we are definitely hunting three points. Nothing less than that will help because anything after this we will end up in a mathematical chance," said Duckie, who was in a similar position when he led Star Cosmos to the NPL a couple of seasons ago.

"I don't intend to go down that line so tomorrow (today) we are going all out and nothing less will be satisfactory," added Duckie.

The likes of Harold Franklyn, Dave Taylor, Dwight Moore, Marlon Dyer and Dwight Holmes will have to lift their game to keep their promotional dreams alive.

FIRST WIN

Naggo Head, the South Central Confederation champion, scored their first win of the campaign, blanking Negril FC 2-0 away to jump into second position on four points.

The Harold Thomas-coached team seems to be coming into their own and another positive result is not beyond them.

"St. George's is a good team and we expect a tough game as the standings are close and as the games go on they get more critical," noted Thomas.

"Our game is improving and we are hoping to continue that improvement," he added.

Captain Patrick Edmondson, scorer of two goals so far, will have to lead from in front again. He should be ably supported by Fabian Sines, Carlos Barrett, Omar Palmer, Damion Harris and Gregory Smith.
