Michael Muirhead to leave Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo)
published: Monday | May 29, 2006

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo), Michael Muirhead, has resigned effective Wednesday, reportedly to pursue personal interests in the tourism industry.

Mr. Muirhead, who joined TPDCo in January 2004, will continue to serve as a director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Audrey Marks, chairman of the TPDCo board said yesterday.

According to a TPDCo statement, during his tenure at the company, Mr. Muirhead led the organisation through a restructuring exercise under which the company streamlined its portfolio to allow for greater focus on its core functions. This resulted in significant savings to the organisation. He also introduced a programme of improved collaboration with stakeholders and agencies in the tourism sector.

Responding to Mr. Muirhead's impending departure, Ms. Marks said, "I am happy that Michael will continue to contribute to the sector. He brings a high level of passion and energy to his work, and it would be a shame for the sector to lose him." Minister of Tourism, Entertainment and Culture, Aloun N' dombet-Assamba said she was sad to see Michael Muirhead go and wished him success.

Director of Corporate Services at TPDCo, Barrington Payne, will act as executive director until the organisation recruits a permanent replacement.
