A more balanced review

THE EDITOR, Sir:
WITH NO access to internet I have only today (May 24) managed to read your Sunday, May 21, Lifestyle Editor Barbara Ellington 'review' of the film Glory to Gloriana. It was most welcome since on getting a free viewing of it at the Carib Cinema before leaving Jamaica, I heard others blasting the movie - some clearly out of envy for not having been cast in it and others because of the usual tendency to put down so much of what we do for ourselves.
The same, I recall, was meted out to Perry Henzell's fantastic Harder They Come until it became a most popular cult film classic in North America and now a hit musical in Eastend London.
Lennie Little-White of Royal Palm Estate and director of Gloriana has nothing to be ashamed about. His film, though by no means perfect gives a pretty credible slice of Jamaican life and character. Ms. Ellington's commentary on the film makes much sense, therefore in contrast to the weekly efforts of less perceptive and balanced commentators who go by the name of critic in the Jamaican media.
Congratulations to The Gleaner for making all views contend.
I am, etc.,
