Clear the air on Adams
published: Monday | May 29, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM somewhat ambivalent on the reinstatement of Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams to active duties as it is not clear who is to reinstate him - whether it should be the Commissioner of Police or the Police Services Commission.

One has the impression that the commissioner is waiting on the Services Commission to make the first move and vice versa. Surely, administratively it does not look good and I would hope that both parties meet at the table and discuss the issue fully, and an amicable solution reached.

The state of limbo in which Mr. Adams has been kept in the last few months is doing more arm to the confidence and morale of the general membership of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The big question is, after a person has been tried and acquitted for an offence is there any legal grounds to keep him at bay? While I do not hold any brief for Mr. Adams, I hope the issue is dealt with expeditiously in the interest of justice.

I am, etc.,
