Family lauds Lawe Insurance
published: Monday | May 29, 2006

Joseph Cunningham, Gleaner Reporter

SHOT DEAD by gunmen on May 6, Police Constable Deuel Oxford's family worried about funeral expences while they mourned.

"I had a horrible experience dealing with funeral expenses when my aunt died," said Reuben Oxford, father of the deceased. He added, because she had no life insurance, he had to bare the expense on his personal account. Furthermore," I even tried selling the furniture she had left behind, and after the funeral I was on my face with debt."

Thankfully, Constable Oxford had been a client with Lawe Insurance Agency, a life insurance company located in the Life of Jamaica building (LoJ) in New Kingston.

GOOD SERVICE

"When Deuel died, within two days a life insurance agent from Lawe was at our home in Clarendon," says Jason Oxford, brother. Initially, I wondered what are these people after. However, I found they were offering good service, which in this case means being 'on time'.

Within two weeks of Constable Oxford's death, Lawe Insurance had expedited his death insurance in time to cover funeral expenses.

In an interview with The Gleaner on Friday, May 26, Constable Stacy-Ann Edwards from the Police Federation said the process of death insurance claims is usually a tedious one that takes months. In spite of this, she said claims made for death insurance to cover officers murdered in unquestionable circumstances like Constable Oxford's, is usually awarded. Constable Oxford was shot dead by gunmen at the gate of his mother's home. Nevertheless, she insists that Constable Oxford's family was blessed, having been awarded so quickly.

Lawe Insurance Agency's agent to the Oxfords, Mr. Enoch Watson, wishes to encourage the Jamaican public and police officers especially to abhor negative mental stereotypes about life insurance agencies.

He said a vibrant life insurance company provides positive experiences for clients. Lawe Insurance, he continued, typifies this with its 'Lloyd's Inter-national Health Insurance' which allows customers to access major health treatment at any hospital of their choice anywhere in the world.
