CLOTHES, CLOTHES and more clothes. St. International Style Week got started with the first show Bikini Polooza held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel poolside Friday night. It was every woman's dream closet in full force.

The audience was treated to 16 collections including Chris Pablo, Minka, Ray Lindo, Imege Wear, Neah Lis and Shem. Among them were the good, the strange and the unremarkable, but the two and a half hours was well worth the wait.

However, for some, the two collections that stole the show were RAW and the Siim/Timeless Collections. RAW, short for Real Amazing Wear, was designed by the young designer Peterina Lindsay and the design showed creativity and real thought. Lindsay said the inspiration for the line comes from the sensuality of the female body and it showed in the cat motif in the design.

BOLD DESIGNS

Her bold designs included a black bathing suit comprised mainly of strings, faux fur lining and what can only be described as a patch hiding the derrier. She was also not afraid of playing with different fabrics including cotton spandex and lace to make her designs stand out. Needless to say, her line was even a hit with the men.

The Siim/Timeless casual collection with the theme 'Downtown edge meets uptown spunk' was not only original in its presentation, but the pieces were also well designed.

To introduce the line, the "wipe out" rhythm was played but instead of a 'little miss long leg' emerging to strut her stuff, the dancer "Shortman" came out dancing in the Timeless wear. Then two other dancers emerged "Sick In Head" were also wearing Timless gear and danced to Aidonia's Chicken Head.

CHUCKLE

The two jumped off stage and were replaced by the actual models who came out in Timeless gears. The line, which featured both male and female T-shirts, pants and other casual wear was well finished and though there was not much colour in the line, the tag phrases on the clothes made up for it. One tank top boasts a capital 'X' through the word 'Silicone' and many in the audience got a chuckle out of this.

There were also those who were good, but brought nothing new to the world of fashion. The Zig Zag, Elan and Kulcha Vibes Collection were a few that fell victim to this. While the finishes were near excellent, there wasn't much to make a fashionista's hair stand on end.

Though the show got off to a late start, the production and most designs were an overall success.
