NEARLY FOUR weeks after the National Contracts Commis-sion (NCC) expired, the Government is yet to name the full complement of the new body, and there are concerns about the status of government contracts awaiting approval.
Last week, former Financial Secretary Shirley Tyndall was named as chairman of the commission.
At yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing, Information Minister Colin Campbell tried to allay fears that the process was in limbo because the commission was not in place.
"If the commission has not sat for three weeks, it just means that when you name the commission, they would have to review those contracts as well," he said in response to a query about contracts to be approved.
He pointed out that sector committees were still operating and examining individual contracts, but noted that the final commission which signs off on contracts would be established shortly.
