REFEREE PETER Prendergast has insisted that he did not fail a fitness examination that ruined his chances of officiating at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
In report carried in Tuesday's Gleaner, which stated that Prendergast failed a fitness test and was sent home, he said he was just training when the injury occurred.
"It was not a fitness test, it was just a training session. I was running in the forest when I stepped on a stone and twisted my knee. I did not carry that injury to Germany. I had no plans to operate on my knee after the World Cup," said Prendergast refuting the report.
"It is after the injury that I am contemplating where and when to do the operation," said Prendergast, pointing to either Germany or Switzerland.
The figure also reported on the referee's fee as US$60,000 is indeed US$40,000.
