DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Jamalco are back in the final of the Berger Paints Super League netball competition for the fourth consecutive time after demolishing arch-rivals Waulgrovians 'A' 69-43 in the semi-finals at the Leila Robinson Courts yesterday.
Perennial contenders, Tivoli 'A', also made their way to the best-of -three finals set to begin this Friday, after dispatching clubmates Tivoli 'B' in an easy paced 53-30 game.
EPIC BATTLE
The epic battle that was expected between last year's champs and Waulgrovians petered out into a tame contest after goal shoot Romelda Aiken, with 64 goals from 68 attempts, tore into the Waulgrovians' defence with utter disdain.
Aiken barely needed the help of her goal attack, Marsha Murphy, who bagged five goals from 10 attempts.
For Waulgrovians, Suzette DeSouza, who had a torrid time of scoring against Nicole Aiken, surprisingly ended with 27 goals from 34 attempts while Simone Forbes, who is normally a livewire, was kept fairly quiet with 16 goals from her 21 attempts.
After the game, Jamalco coach, Winston Nevers, admitted to being surprised by the result and expected a tougher final four assignment.
"It was easier than I expected but the team was determined to do well," Nevers said.
Waulgrovians coach Patrick Brissett chalked up the result to just a bad night.
"We had 48 turnovers by my count. The team didn't play well and I would really say we had a bad game," Brissett said, pointing to the game being their worst in three years.
In the other semi-final, Cleopatra Grant was the game's high scorer for Tivoli 'A', knocking down 39 goals from 47 attempts, while Nikiesha Cohen chipped in with four from nine and Shedeiky Hamilton had nine from 11.
The losers, who chopped
and changed four players in their attacking arc, had good production from Nerissa Gibbs who got 18 from 20.
