Cable and Wireless Jamaica (CWJ) is lowering its rates for broadband Internet access for the second time in a month.
Effective today, existing customers who have ADSL packages with no term contracts will begin enjoying lower rates from Cable & Wireless, the company stated.
CWJ dominates Jamaica's Internet landscape due to its almost complete lock on landline connections, but the company has had to adjust to new competitors, and critically Flow, which yesterday announced its new rollout plan for Internet connections.
A 256K connection from CWJ will now cost the Jamaican dollar equivalent of US$33; a 512K connection - US$40 and 1Mb US$55. The reduction in rates announced yesterday range from 45 per cent to 55 per cent and will also apply for new customers.
"As leaders in the deployment of telecommunications technology in Jamaica we are always keen to achieve cost efficiencies in our operations while providing high quality and affordable services to our customers in all 14 parishes," said Xesus Johnston, vice-president for broadband and consumer services at CWJ. "We continue to listen to our customers and to respond by introducing products and services that meet their needs."
This is the second round of price reductions by CWJ in recent weeks as on May 1 rates to all customers with twelve-month contracts were reduced by up to 33 per cent.
