SENIOR DEPUTY Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, said on Tuesday, that the case against Matthews Lane resident Donald 'Zekes' Phipps was a 'tough' one to prosecute.
She was commenting on the case after Phipps was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Rodney Leroy Farquharson and Dayton 'Scotchbrite' Williams.
COURAGEOUS WITNESSES
Defence lawyer Valerie Neita Robertson, said yesterday that Phipps was looking forward to his appeal against his convictions and sentences. She said the defence team had prepared the relevant documents for filing.
Ms. Llewellyn, who prosecuted the case along with Donald Bryan and Icolyn Reid, said further that although the case was a tough one, the witnesses were courageous and came up to proof. She added that the police investigations were very good, as well as the forensic evidence and the cell site analysis, and were a powerful case of circumstantial evidence against Phipps.
Commenting on the defence, she said Phipps' case was very vigorously defended by his lawyers.
"But the case for the prosecution was a very powerful one of circumstantial evidence," she said.
