THE JAMAICA Public Service Company (JPS) says it has approved 5,000 applications under its amnesty programme for those stealing electricity.
The amnesty allows such persons to be legally reconnected without risk of arrest or prosecution. JPS said that more than 50 per cent of the persons came from Kingston and St. Andrew, with Spanish Town and Montego Bay accounting for the second and third highest numbers.
Having targeted those who had been disconnected for debt, JPS then waived their backbills.
