LETTER OF THE DAY - Bad vibes at gospel concert
published: Saturday | June 3, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On Saturday May 27, 2006, I was at the King's House lawn where Donnie McClurkin and others were performing at a concert. I had bought my ticket one day before the event as I wanted to avoid the rush at the gate. When I arrived at the gate a shuttle was there waiting to take us to where the concert was being held.

After being on the bus for about two minutes the bus stopped, and to my surprise the bus driver shouted out, "This stop is for the VIP persons". Almost everyone started to get off because after all, we are all Very Important Persons to God.

I guess the driver was surprised that everyone was getting off at the special VIP stop. So he said, "Only persons with VIP tickets should come off here." Some persons started complaining, but what was the driver to do?. He then continued on his way to drop off the non-VIPS.

When we got to the ground what got me really upset was that they had put up barriers at the front. So the persons who were not very important to God were set apart from those presumably important to God. It dampened my spirit, because I attend dances and when I go I only pay one price. Of course, it's different when you buy a ticket 'presold' before the day of the event. They do not have any tickets for VIP. And they do not put up barriers. I am looking to turn my life around. Is this what I will have to face? I was disheartened, because I don't think this was right.

To make matters worse the master of ceremony was giving away gift baskets from sponsors and almost all the giveaways were for the first person to come to the stage to answer questions, etc. What did she expect?

By the time someone from the back get up from their seat, run to the front, remove the barriers and then run to the stage, three questions could have been asked. I was so happy when the person who won the gate prize was from the back.

BARRIERS REMOVED

It had to take Donnie McClurkin to get down the barriers, as no one else seemed to have a problem with it. As he came to the stage he said, he wanted the barriers to be removed; that we were all one in the Lord, and there should be no barriers between God's people.

I now felt again like I wanted to turn my life around. I think the promotors should be ashamed of themselves. Thank you very much Donnie McClurkin, Grace Thrillers, Noreta Lewis and the Katalys Crew for a wonderful show. Promotors, sponsors and Master of Ceremony you all should be ashamed.

I am, etc;

M. MARTIN
